Maria di Miceli is born around 1837 in Corleone, based on her age at the birth of her daughter, Lucia. She is the daughter of Mariano di Miceli and Lucia Todaro.[1]
Maria marries twice, first to Francesco Paolo di Miceli, son of the late Cristoforo di Miceli and the living Rosaria Paternostro, on 24 April 1853.[2] The couple are of unknown relation.
Maria remarries to Antonino Cascio (sometimes recorded Castro) on 1 February 1857. Maria's parents are living at this time.[3]
Maria and Antonino have at least seven children together: Maria (1858), Giuseppe (1861), Mariano (1864), Lucia (1867), Maria Carmela (1870), Francesco (1873), and Giovanna (1880).
Maria is born 19 March 1858 and baptized Mariam the next day. Her godparents are Antonino di Miceli and Antonina, his unmarried sister.
Giuseppe is born 19 May 1861 and baptized Josephum the next day. His baptismal record gives his father's name as Matteo Castro. The name of the father in the baptismal record above Giuseppe's is Matteo D’Anna, so perhaps the priest who recorded them was confused. Giuseppe's godparents are Maria's sister, Maddalena and her husband, Giuseppe Coniglio.
Mariano is born and baptized 6 May 1864.His godparents are Giuseppe d'Anna and Maria Santa, his sister.
Lucia is born 28 September 1867 in her parents' home in via Sant'Elena, Corleone. Antonino, 33 (b. 1834---he is actually born in 1837, and is still 29), reports her birth, and Maria's age at the time as 29 (b. 1838). She is baptized 28 September 1867. Her godmother is Biagia di Miceli, who is unmarried.
Maria Carmela is born 30 March 1870 and baptized 1 April as Mariam Carmelam. Her godparents are Pietro Palazzotto and Antonina Calabrese.
Francesco is born 3 October 1873 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Biagio Gennaro and Giuseppa Salerno, a married couple.
Maria (1858) dies at age 21 on 28 April 1879. She is unmarried.
Giovanna is born and baptized Joannam on 23 November 1880. Her godmother is Mariana, the unmarried daughter of Leoluchina di Miceli.
Lucia marries Leoluca Pomilla on 23 January 1890 in Corleone. It is the first marriage for either of them. Both their fathers are living.
Maria Carmela marries Leoluca lo Bello on 7 November 1891. This marriage record contains reference to a dispensation obtained from Monreale. (It isn't clear why this is necessary.)
Mariano marries Angela Troia on 26 April 1892. Antonino and Maria are both still living.
Maria, age 60 (b. 1838), travels to New York with two of her daughters, Maria Carmela and Giovanna, on the SS Aller in 1898. With them is a fourteen year old boy, Salvatore Bonfiglio, of unknown relation. [4]
